customer service 101

my roommate and i have this list of business in fayetteville where the people were apparently never trained in basic customer service. you have been to places like this before (its like that commercial on t.v. right now that plays "what the world needs now is love, sweet love" and it all about how people have no clue what customer service is). anyway, our list includes, in random order:

Braums *sixth street*
kinkos
dollar general
U of A computer center
Springdale high school attendance office
Terry's towing
Crapplebee's... i mean, Applebee's

i was thinking about this today while i was eating my recently purchased cappuccino chunky chocolate frozen yogurt from braums. Fortunately, i was able to get in and out in under five minutes and without any casualties. feel free to add any that i missed and/or don't know about.

Twilight zone

The buzz on campus is over the two students who died recently, especially the death of April Love, the 20 year-old junior who was highly active in campus organizations. For some reason her death has affected me more than expected. I didn't know her, but the fact that she was a female, political science major living off campus strikes a nerve within me. She was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend last week at her apartment. This makes my hairs on my neck stand up. Murdered? Such a gruesome thing. I can't get over her being murdered. Its strange to say that I'm accustomed to the means of most deaths that happen on campus such as drunk driving accidents, drugs, etc. But that someone was murdered hits too close to home for me.

I've been thinking to myself what must possess someone to murder another person that they know so well. What kind of situation drives one to this point? To take the life of another, to determine for oneself that this other person should be robbed of life, I think it to be the most selfish act a person can commit.

Megan told me that this is the sixth death of a university student since 1988. Is that a lot? I'm having a difficult time determining if it is or not. It feels like the twilight zone.

baby, you're a lost cause

right now i'm watching a re-run of saturaday night live. beck is the musical guest, and i must say, i like beck.

at the church i work at, every week i add names into the church database for newcomers from that Sunday. Two days ago i entered someone's name that was Beck. Other than THE Beck, i didn't know people had that for a name.

there are also a lot of young married couples at the church with babies. the trendy thing right now, it seems, is to name your kid something really strange that might not even sound nice when said. but that is not the point; the point, rather, is to simply have a unique name. kyron, alton, sebastian. i realize sebastian is somewhat common, but i always want to call him sea-bass. beck. i just can't get over beck.

funny story. i painted a wood panel, and then i made my own rubber stamp that i inked to put on top of the panel. i chose the grove's logo because i really like it. however, because i am a moron, i didn't realize it would come out backward on the panel once i printed it. good one, gennie. nonetheless, i would like this to be my tribute to a wonderful church with wonderful people. yay, grove.  Posted by Picasa

kids... they say the darndest things

if you know me fairly then you also know that i work with kids a lot. it is my honor to spend weekly time with children, whether is be for my job or for fun. the last few months, i have been especially aware of some absolutely hilarious things these kids say. i babysat for the harkey kids a couple of nights ago, and they prompted me to dedicate a blog to some laugh-worthy, tickilishly wonderful things they and others have said to me.

"you have to bring your shoes on the boat, because the rocks in california are sharp"- maitlyn harkey

"michael jackson is evil because he tricks kids" -taylor fries

"i'm going to marry josh when i grow up..."
"who is josh?"
"he's my brother."
"i don't think you can marry your brother, sammi."
"yes i can! my dad said so" - sammi, 2 years old

"i need to buy more bacon" -sebastian bedford, 2 years old

"is that a baby in your tummy?" -rachael joy stanford, 2 years old.

"i will flush YOU down the toilet" -marcom fries, 5 years old.

"she is being mean and grumpy to all of us."
"why is she being like that?"
"its cause she farted three or four times." -katherine rubble

rent a car, they won't pick you up

never ever ever should any of you rent a car from Enterprise.

The end.

caedmons

i would like to know what is thought of these words, written by caedmon's call:

“There's tarnish on the golden rule
And I want to jump from this ship of fools
Show me a place where hope is young
And a people who are not afraid to love
This world has nothing for me
And this world has everything
All that I could want
And nothing that I need
This world is making me drunk
On the spirits of fear
So when he says who will go
I am nowhere near
And the least of these
Look like criminals to me
So I leave Christ on the street
This world has held my hand
And has led me into intolerance
But now I'm waking up
And now I'm breaking up
But now I'm making up
For lost time”
