welcome

in case you were wondering...

we have an update to the poor customer service list for fayetteville. megan and i went to u.s. pizza for lunch two weeks ago and the service was... non existent. our server basically forgot we were there. we waited forever to get a pizza during a not busy time, and then we had to wait another fifteen minutes or so after we were finished to get our check. throw us a bone, u.s. pizza! we also made a trip to loaf n'joes and the service was less than good. i usually don't have any problems there, but last monday we did. but loaf n'joes is pardoned because their sandwiches are SO good.

we also made a trip to cheap thrills after sandwiches. megan and i renamed it moderate thrills, because its not really that cheap. i tend to be kinda picky about my thrift stores, but this one isn't really that thrifty. one would have to pay five bucks for a scarf someone got an unknown substance on.

but, i'm not letting these minor annoyances stop me from exploring and enjoying the great town we live in. i heart fayetteville.

freestar!

i've been driving a minivan for the last two weeks.

my jeep has been having problems, so its in the shop. in the meantime, enterprise gave me a ford freestar to drive. i must say, its quite the minivan. i read that the freestar was designed to be ford's most flexible, most high powerful minivan yet. it comes complete with a cd player and this really annoying noise that it makes 20 seconds after you start the car to tell you that you haven't put your seat belt on yet.

three cheers for the minivan!

it also comes with social stigmas, which the car rental company did not warn me of. for instance, now i have a soccer mom aura around me at all times from driving the minivan. this allows for people to assume i am actually 31 as opposed to 21. last sunday this woman in the nursery at work asked me which two year old was mine. "oh none of them, actually" i replied. "So are your kids in the elementary class?" she continued. i kindly informed her i wasn't married and didn't have any children. people are also nicer to me because i drive a minivan. in grocery store parking lots, i get waved to go ahead of another vehiicle or pedestrian all the time. maybe its because they think i'll be late for ballet class or picking up little johnny from pee wee football. it also makes me drive safer. i feel as though i have to go slower, as if i do have children in the car. its quite interesting, really.

i even drove it to little rock for thanksgiving. how wonderful. my friend emily rode down with me and she was able to lean the passenger seat all the way back and have her own climate control! it makes for fun road trips.

i don't think i will be driving a minivan any time soon after this. but for all of you who are in the market for such a car, try the ford freestar! you might be disappointed, but that is not my fault.

Happy birthday to you x2

one of my pet peeves is hand washing. i tend to be slightly compulsive about this, although not enough to where i can't leave the house because of germs. in fact, i started to be compulsive about washing my hands after a biology lab my freshman year where we took swab samples from the bathroom in the building and let them cultivate for a week. you wouldn't believe the things that grew in those Petri dishes... and the interesting thing was most of the germs were from the sink and the door, not the toilet handle or seat. i remember having a conversation with my friends polly and ben sometime last year about the differences between men and women when it comes to hand washing. we were talking about why women wash their hands more often than men after using the restroom. and if you think this statement is bias and untrue, think again. one study i read about online says that 90% of women wash their hands and only 75% of men do. the funny thing is that 91% of people surveyed as a whole claim they do wash their hands, when in reality only 82% did. i think this is an interesting thing to lie about, considering that a person who doesn't wash their hands is only hurting himself or herself. so, lather up people! they say to use warm water with soap (always use soap), and to wash for 20 seconds, or as long as it takes to sing happy birthday two times.

happy hand washing to you, happy hand washing to you.

erg!

they are massacring us at school!

The Old and the New

I am currently reading the book of Hebrews, and I am fascinated by it. For some reason I have not wanted to read this book in an in depth way prior to now. However, now that I'm in it, I find it incredibly rich. It is amazing to read the stark contrasts between the old and the new covenants. With the old covenant, heavenly matters were a shadow; now they are a reality. The old covenant gave limited promises; now we have limitless ones. The old covenant was a failed agreement by the people; in the new we have a faithful agreement by Christ. The old covenant was one of external standards and rules; the new is one of internal standards from a new heart. Before was limited access to God; now is unlimited. Legal cleansing versus personal cleansing. The old covenant practiced continual sacrifice but now we have conclusive sacrifice *praise God*. The old was forgiveness earned, but now it is forgiveness freely given. The old was available to only some. Now, it is available to all. Isn't this amazing?! I wonder what kind of incredibly huge paradigm shift this must have caused for the Hebrews after Christ. If it blows my mind now, what must it have been like 2000 years ago to a people who couldn't fully grasp the weight of Christ's position as a perfect priest?
