Ellipsis

Isn’t it interesting how no one can ever really give you what you need? Or even what you want, really. And most of the time what you want isn’t what you need at all.

My brain is so small. I wish I could understand the difference between want and need; I wish I could be smart enough to disregard want and know what need is, and I wish I were wise enough to look to Jesus every time such a situation presented itself.

Is life meant to be spent in a constant cycle of hope and disappointment? Sometimes I believe this is the only thing my life consists of. I suppose that this could be truth. In an earthly sense, this is to be expected because it is our nature to hope, but it is also our nature to disappoint.

Can a line be drawn from this? Is there ever a time to give up and stop loving? Stop hoping?

Extending grace to someone who disappoints is a difficult thing. It is a Jesus-thing. It is what Jesus does to us every day-- Love someone that disappoints you. God tells me this, right now. “Gennie, love despite disappointment. Gennie, love despite hurt. Gennie, love despite abandonment. Gennie, love like you will die tomorrow. Gennie, love like I have loved and do love and will always love you. Gennie, please love.”
