freestar!

i've been driving a minivan for the last two weeks.

my jeep has been having problems, so its in the shop. in the meantime, enterprise gave me a ford freestar to drive. i must say, its quite the minivan. i read that the freestar was designed to be ford's most flexible, most high powerful minivan yet. it comes complete with a cd player and this really annoying noise that it makes 20 seconds after you start the car to tell you that you haven't put your seat belt on yet.

it also comes with social stigmas, which the car rental company did not warn me of. for instance, now i have a soccer mom aura around me at all times from driving the minivan. this allows for people to assume i am actually 31 as opposed to 21. last sunday this woman in the nursery at work asked me which two year old was mine. "oh none of them, actually" i replied. "So are your kids in the elementary class?" she continued. i kindly informed her i wasn't married and didn't have any children. people are also nicer to me because i drive a minivan. in grocery store parking lots, i get waved to go ahead of another vehiicle or pedestrian all the time. maybe its because they think i'll be late for ballet class or picking up little johnny from pee wee football. it also makes me drive safer. i feel as though i have to go slower, as if i do have children in the car. its quite interesting, really.

i even drove it to little rock for thanksgiving. how wonderful. my friend emily rode down with me and she was able to lean the passenger seat all the way back and have her own climate control! it makes for fun road trips.

i don't think i will be driving a minivan any time soon after this. but for all of you who are in the market for such a car, try the ford freestar! you might be disappointed, but that is not my fault.
