something useless but extraordinarily fun:

if you go wo wikipedia and search for your birthday (month+day), you'll find an amazing list of historical occurances for that day in addition to an exhaustive list of people's birthdays you share, deaths for that day, and holiday observances.

some interesting recordings for march 4th (my birthday):

birthdays i share:
a good deal of people, including a dozen or so european composers, mathematicians, astronomers, comic book illustrators, civil rights leaders, screenwriters, and scottish politicians.

william willett, the inventor of daylight savings time, died on my birthday in 1915.
so did john candy in 1994.
