welcome

gennie mcsweeney

i dedicate this to the several hilarious open letters i just read.

an open letter to the middle g key on my piano:

dear g key,

i cannot even begin to tell you of the agony you have caused me these last few weeks. perhaps you cannot see the great importance you hold, as you assume you are just one small key in the midst of 87 others. but you are not, my dear key, unimportant. in fact, you are quite pivotal to any musical production that takes place on my piano. you are middle g.

what has caused you this unfortunate fate? why must you play but only once or twice after being struck and then resort to a tiresome mission of soundless vertical motioning? why must you rebel, when all others comply?

i have tried endlessly to get you to behave in the manor you should. i have pryed, with my two-toned flat head screw driver, between you and your F and A neighbors, hoping you will eventually cease this persisting sticking. yet you fail to comply despite my greatest efforts.

what are you hiding down there? is it peanut butter? the moldy remains of some liquid from years ago? or is it just the accumulated dust from years of neglect while in our old garage? take heart, g key! know your worth, your value! you are immensely vital to the musical delights of my hand!

i hope that one day you will come to your senses and unstick yourself.

sincerely,

gennie davis

circles running down

I finally finished my latest painting. I have been working on it for about six days now. It is quite unlike anything I have done yet. I'm not really sure where it came from. Mostly I do work from photos, real life, or just anything I can find to look at. But when I started this project I had the urge to paint from nothing, just state of mind. Erin spurred me on by suggesting that I attempt to paint the concept of nostalgia. This wasn't easy, but fun, as I tried to paint what I thought nostalgia would be. It took a different turn somewhere along the way and ended up coming out as nothing but abstract circles and such, which is usually what happens to painters (at least in my case).Hopefully I'll get a shot of it posted soon.

The new coldplay album is delightful. It comes highly recommended by me. Basically Coldplay is just ridiculously good and it is almost impossible for them to disappoint. Thus, I suggest you go out and by it asap.

Interesting news: Today Rogers High School was featured on national news because teenagers where holding fight clubs, filming them, then selling the DVD's. The video footage even featured teenage girls boxing each other. Apparently the kids won't be charged with anything except the peoples responsible for distributing the DVD's. Arkansas makes its mark once again!

Ellipsis

Isn’t it interesting how no one can ever really give you what you need? Or even what you want, really. And most of the time what you want isn’t what you need at all.

My brain is so small. I wish I could understand the difference between want and need; I wish I could be smart enough to disregard want and know what need is, and I wish I were wise enough to look to Jesus every time such a situation presented itself.

Is life meant to be spent in a constant cycle of hope and disappointment? Sometimes I believe this is the only thing my life consists of. I suppose that this could be truth. In an earthly sense, this is to be expected because it is our nature to hope, but it is also our nature to disappoint.

Can a line be drawn from this? Is there ever a time to give up and stop loving? Stop hoping?

Extending grace to someone who disappoints is a difficult thing. It is a Jesus-thing. It is what Jesus does to us every day-- Love someone that disappoints you. God tells me this, right now. “Gennie, love despite disappointment. Gennie, love despite hurt. Gennie, love despite abandonment. Gennie, love like you will die tomorrow. Gennie, love like I have loved and do love and will always love you. Gennie, please love.”
